Eleven years have passed since the end of the Tokugawa shogunate, a period during which people rose up against the Tokugawa shoguns. The revolutionaries aimed to create a period of peace and prosperity for the country. The new era, "Meiji," has begun, but peace remains elusive. The use of the sword is still prevalent, but people are still being killed in the streets. The orphans of war have nowhere to go, and the government is content to fill its own pockets. A ronin named Himura Kenshin, who was once known as Hitokiri Battousai and was the most ruthless killer of revolutionaries, is still trying to atone for the lives lost by achieving his values. He has sworn an oath to never take another life and to end the killing and slaughter, and he will not rest until he does. Now, in the eleventh year of Meiji, Kenshin meets Kaoru Kamiya, the owner and master of a small dojo that is threatened with closure. The police are powerless against the murders committed in the name of the dojo and by a person who calls himself Battousai. Kenshin decides to stop his travels to clear his name and Kaoru's, but how long will it take for his past to catch up with him?
